The park was starting to get busy when I arrived this morning. Walking counter clockwise from the parking area I crossed the western bridge and greeted two girls I see regularly on my travels. This morning we exchanged names and chatted for a while. They walk six laps every morning, which is equivalent to over six miles. Shirley and Lois also said they had lost more than 150 pounds. Wow, that is an inspiring level of commitment. After passing the fountain, something caught my eye looking out to the east. The first light on the low clouds through the silhouettes of the fan palms was striking. Taking pictures has taught me about the capabilities of my phone camera and an editing program to adjust for my off-balanced shots and poor lighting. I was amazed at the quality of pictures without any flash or exposure adjustment. The editing software can correct a myriad of errors. The park portfolio is amassing some outstanding images.
On the eastern bridge, another exerciser jogged past me and something responded in my self-image. Leaning into the motion, I jogged for about 2/3 of the bridge and returned to a walk as I caught up with my girlfriends. We laughed as they said jogging was very different from walking or even speed walking, I agreed, sucking in more air. A brisk walk will be my standard for now.
As I reached my starting point, I decided that today I would cross the western bridge again and then return. A few more yards today, may lead to more laps in the future. The park, the people, the wildlife, the light, the water and the sky, all add rich beauty to my wonderful daily morning experience. "I've got the world on a string, sitting on a rainbow, got the string around my finger . . ."
