John Dewey is the next author in our 'conversation'

Our next reading selection is John Dewey, "Experience and Education". Owning that none of us have the 1992 edition of the Great Books of the Western World set by Encyclopedia Britannica the specific text was unclear. We have decided to discuss this on August 2nd, 2009.

Dewey, J. (1938) Experience and Education, New York: Collier Books. (Collier edition first published 1963). Dewey wants to move education beyond the dualities of progressive / traditional. He outlines a philosophy of experience and its relation to education.

"Experience and Education"
by John Dewey is linked here with some readable content online. It about 120 pages (without the commentaries) and is not yet in the public domain. Search for it in a library , new and/or used bookstores, or buy it at Google books.
A few relevant John Dewy links: 500 word summary of Dewey's 'Experience and Education', The Center for Dewey Studies offers information and links of interest, and a brief overview of Dewey, his ideas and works.

This became a turning point in education thinking, the discussion should be very stimulating! Our Great Books of the Western World - Ten Year Reading Plan, years 5 through 7 is viewable with this link.
