Tonight we met to discuss some of the works of Ptolemy, Copernicus and Kepler from the Great Books of the Western World 10 year reading plan. This was the 7th reading assignment of the 5th year. It impresses me that we have held our intention and commitment together. Jordan was the originator of the challenge and Ali'e, Ingo, Jerome and myself have staid the course. Reading the published works of the great minds of the western world is interesting and stimulating. From the perspective of the current millennium, it is an exceptional view looking back while standing on the shoulders of these giants. The group has decided to take a respite for the month of December and to reconvene on January 11, 2009. Our next reading will be Plotinus "Sixth Ennead" which seems to head in a completely different direction than the scientific focus of our last reading. I am enriched and my viewpoint diversified by the examination and exploration of the concepts and ideas in these great works. Thankfully, a tempering of understanding occurs as exposure to information expands.
