Exploring Natural Florida

My local city park was very lovely. Instead of finding a connection to the county walking trails, I found a beautiful oasis on a tributary of the Wekiva River. The park is bounded on two sides by the river.

I was lucky enough to see wildlife. Something large swam toward me in the creek. At first I thought it a huge catfish, dark and sleek. Then I recognized it was a Florida otter. As I got my camera turned on, the otter slipped under the water and into his den, in the bank at my feet. Then a box turtle swam past under the water. Further up the stream a great blue heron was resting. I tried to get closer to get a good shot, but he was aware of everything. He made soft cooing sounds to warn the younger heron another 20 feet further upstream. They decided I was a paparazzi and flew upstream.

I got some neeeded outdoor exercise in very beautiful natural surroundings. I captured some images on my Flip Video camera. The greatest benefit is knowing more about a park that's right up the street!
