Thanks to my professional image consultant, I have transformed my appearance into a professionally appropriate one. After years as an artistic designer and visual merchandiser, I believed my image was great. Well, as it turns out, sometimes you need a second, or even a third opinion. It is amazing what a new viewpoint can reveal.Opening up to have my looks critiqued was scary. The consultant's personality was engaging, she was refreshingly frank, her energy was positive and strong. As the appointment date came closer, I had many second thoughts. I clung to the knowledge that she was a professional image consultant with lots of happy clients' testimonials on her website. I would go with an open mind and follow her recommendations.
After an enjoyable day discussing color, style, fashion and shopping, I learned some colors and designs were not enhancing my image. Heading to a weekend conference, I decided to test the new program. The next morning I received an unusual amount of favorable comments on my appearance. What was happening? At the conference people came up to me and almost everyone commented on how great I looked.
Upon returning home, I gutted my closet. She had told me what I needed to eliminate, it wiped out 50% of my wardrobe. Accessories, shoes, coats, jewelry, everything had to be held up to the new standard and the losers went to charity. I wholly embraced her directions and never looked back. What helped the most was the positive response from friends and associates that lifted me to a new view of myself.
Because a picture is worth a thousand words, your professional image is worth much more than you could ever accurately measure.
